Hiya' guys. Sorry for such a blatantly blunt subject header, but... I was wondering if, in your years of study, if you've come across some truly excellent books (that are still academically sound today) re: the ubiquetous theme of phallic worship with bazillions of examples! *G* This (as well as the next query) is a personal research project of mine.
Also, I'm looking for some GREAT research material that I may turn to concerning the ritual and religious use of dildos! According to the History Channel, on the isle of Lesbos, Sappho and her followers used dildos in religious or for ritual purposes. I wonder if dildos were religious or ritually used in the cult of Dionysos because he was known to have penetrated Himself with such a device carved from fig wood, I believe. Moreover, it'd be interesting to locate similar ritual or religious dildo-centred practices within Phallic-God cults, such as Priapus, for example!
Ya' know, this reminds me of a discussion me and a bunch of folks were having in High School, during art class: Someone mentioned that the candles made by the nuns were used as dildos! This may be, but I've not read anything to verify it, yet.
BTW, something fascinating just came to mind: I don't believe I've ever read anything regarding the Tradition of the traditional Gardnerian phallic tipped wand. Where did it come from? How did it get into Gardnerianism via Gerald. And, what evidence might answering these questions prove when applied to the grand scheme of modern Pagan witchcraft's [Wicca's] history? That is, could it be evidence for something older than what scholars are willing to allow for?
Basically, I'd love top learn more about these topic in a historiographic setting.

Fri, December 22, 2006 - 9:20 PMI totally saw the same show on the history channel and that peice of information about the dildos also grabbed my attention.
I was inspired...the next day I cast a circle and performed a quick little sex magick ritual with a dildo I had just bought. I wore it in a harness and jacked off with it (which still feels good ya know cause it's pressing up against the clit) charging it up with energy and set an intention for future hot sex with it and some other things I wanted to see cultivating in my own self.
I would love to learn more about some of this phallic worship or any other dildo rituals there are.
ps. I'm a total greenhorn when it comes to rituals and magick in general so if this sounds really amature...well I'm just starting and I make stuff up as i go....
